Changing channels on your Engenius router

Posted on 05 January 2009 by admin

If you are using an Engenius wireless router supplied by BBNET and are experiencing interference or dropped connections, it is recommended that you change channels on the wireless router. Follow the steps below to change the channel used by your router.

(Double click the images below to see full size)

- Open your internet browser ( Internet Explorer, Firefox etc ) and in the address bar to login to the router interface, you need to enter ‘http://192.168.1.253′, after which you will be prompted for a username and password. Enter ‘admin’ for both the username and password field and press ‘ Enter’.

(Note : If you configured the router yourself, to access this page you will need to use the IP address you set the default gateway to access the configuration pages)

- Once you have successfully logged in, the following screen will be displayed. The items on the left hand side menu are expandable to display the relevant sub menus of that category.

- On the left hand column, under the ‘Wireless’ heading select ‘Basic Settings’ as shown below.

- Beside ‘Channel Number’ there is a drop down menu as shown below which gives all available channels on the router (Generally 1-11). If you are experiencing interference issues with other wireless devices in the home, changing this can resolve the problem. If you are using channel 1, then try changing the channel to 11. Click on ‘Apply changes’ and then ‘Logout’ on the left hand column.

NOTE : You may need to go through this process a couple of times to find a suitable channel. This is dependent on the number and type of wireless devices in use in the immediate area.
